A well-set screen is one of the best weapons
a motion offense has, but its effectiveness
is negated by lazy or improper screening
techniques.
よくセットされたスクリーンはモーションオフェンスにおける
最も効果的な武器である。
しかし、その効果は正しくない技術では台無しだ。

The best screens take the defense by
surprise.
最も効果的なスクリーンはディフェンスを驚かす

Getting that to happen requires coordination
between the screener...
And the cutter.
効果的なスクリーンを行うためには
スクリナーとカッターの協調性が必要である

Before setting the screen, the screener
should make sure that the cutter sees him.
It's the defense you want to surprise, not
your own teammates!
スクリーンをセットする前にスクリナーはカッターが
自分の事を見ているかを確かめなければならない
驚かせたいのはディフェンスでありチームメイトではない

As the screener moves into position, the
cutter sets his defender up by starting away
from the screen. That will force the
defender to shift his balance and turn his
attention away from the oncoming screen.
スクリナーが位置についたら
カッターはスクリーンと逆に動く
これによってディフェンスのバランスと注意を
スクリーンがきている逆側によせる

If the screener times his arrival correctly,
the defender will be off-balance, looking the
wrong way and unable to recover.
スクリナーが正しくタイミングを合わせれば
ディフェンスはバランスを崩し
視界が悪くなり
リカバーできなくなるだろう

It is imperative that the cutter waits for
the screen to arrive before attempting to
cut off of it! It's better to leave too late
than too early.
カッターはカットする前にスクリーンがセットされるのを
しっかりと待たなくてはいけない
早すぎるより遅すぎるほうが良いくらいだ

When the screener is firmly planted, the
cutter goes shoulder-to-shoulder past him.
Don't allow too much space, or the defender
will slide through as if there were no screen
there at all.
スクリーンがしっかりとセットされたら
カッターは肩と肩をすり合わせてぬけていく
スペースを空けすぎてはいけない
まるでスクリーンがないかのようにスライドされてしまう。

As the cutter breaks into the open, he
should put his hands up to give the passer a
target. The last thing we want to do is blow
the catch after all that work getting open.
カッターがオープンになれば、手を上げて
パスのターゲットになる
オープンになる動きをしたら後はボールをキャッチするだけだ
